Sri Lanka New Year plan: Port City project will restart and expects to attract more direct foreign investments
Sri Lanka Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera recently said in Parliament, that a diversified foreign direct investment is very important, it helps to reduce Sri Lanka’s dependence on the export of tea and garments. Sri Lanka is trying to establish investor confidence for the neighboring countries.
Mr. Samaraweera said that the Government is committed to create one million jobs through increased investments and export promotions within five years. Accordingly, Sri Lanka hopes to attract more foreign direct investments, and to ensure the private sector growth.
Few days ago Sri Lankan Government stated that the agreement on investment promotion and protection was signed. This agreement is for the Government to release an open signal of the commercial activity, It wants to ensure a transparent and fair competitive environment for all the investors , hoping to vigorously attract more foreign investments.
Meanwhile, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesing he said that, once the environmental assessment report of the Colombo Port City project passes, it indicates that the project will solve the problem of sustainable environment, and create a comfortable environment. This means that government will restart the project in 2016.
