India Plans to Adjust Import Tariff on LED Raw Material


According to “The Times of India”, in order promote energy-saving and high efficient lighting; the Indian government is planning to cut consumption tax and import tariff on LED raw materials.

It’s reported that with UJALA Plan put forward by Narendra Modi Government which intends to replace all low –efficient bulbs with high-efficient energy-saving lights, Indian Ministry of Electric Power has replaced 200 million incandescent bulbs with LED lamps. UJALA Plan aims to replay 770 million incandescent bulbs with LED lamps.

According to 2017 India Annual Budget released On February 1st, the government proposes to reduce consumption tax, tariff and anti-dumping duty on all LED components to 6%, 5% and 6% respectively. In addition, it’s also recommended that tariff on raw materials which are used for manufacturing of LED driver and LED circuit board (MCPCB) to be lowered to 5%.

Sunil Vachani, chairman and general manager of Dixon Technologies said: reduction of consumption tax is great news for the LED industry.”
